seeing beyond sight

i’m a little slow on the draw with this post, but a few months ago i wrote an article for the Institute for Photographic Empowerment, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of participant-produced documentary studies in the fields of photography, film and digital media. the piece was on photojournalist turned non-profit leader Tony Deifell, who, in the early 90’s, helped lead a series of photography courses for students at the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in North Carolina. i had the opportunity to interview Deifell about his extraordinary students, and what they helped him to see about the natures of individual perspective and creative vision. to read the article and learn more about Seeing Beyond Sight, a collection of work from the Governor Morehead students curated by Deifell, click here.
