clean air, clear stars

last sunday afternoon for me consisted of packing into a scion and driving three hours out into the middle of the desert to “Pioneertown.” nestled past some rocky outgrowths north of Yucca Valley, the one time western movie set has now become a joy ride destination for bikers and hipster cowboys alike. it also happened to be the backdrop for the third annual clean air clear stars festival, a “global cooling” music festival specializing in music with a slight boot-stomping bent. my friends (and, coincidentally, also one of my favorite local bands), Les Blanks, were on the bill, which proved to be a fine union of setting and sound. i finally sorted through my shots from the night; here’s a few of my favorites, in no particular order:
